Health and Safety Awareness Course and CSCS Test
The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is aimed at operatives. This safety training course is a foundation course aimed at newcomers to the construction industry.
This one day course is to help operatives working in the construction industry to understand the potential hazards they face on site. It provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, identifying the delegate’s responsibility for looking after themselves and others. The course also outlines the employer’s duties and explains what should be done if the worker thinks that anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk. The course is an ideal foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation card.
At the end of the course candidates will:
Know what is expected of site operatives and how they contribute to the safety of the workplace
Understand the need to prevent accidents and the importance of reporting accidents and unsafe acts
Aquire a basic understanding of health and safety law
Understand the need for risk assessments and method statements
Be able to identify how their role fits into the safety management on the site
Have an appreciation of the need to work safely and to stop and ask for advice if unsure
Have an understanding of health & welfare, manual handling, working at height, PPE, fire prevention and control, emergency procedures & first aid, electrical safety on site, hazardous substances, hand-held equipment and tools, noise and vibration, excavations and confined spaces, and site transport safety on site
Delegates will be assessed through the CSCS health, safety and environment test immediately after their course.
There are no pre-requisites for you to undertake this course.
CSCS health, safety and environment tests can only be administered at accredited sites. The test consists of 50 multiple choice questions, and candidates have 45 minutes max. to answer all the questions. The results of the test are generally available immediately.
1 day from 8.45am to 5pm, with the CSCS test administered immediately afterwards.
This course is offered for groups of up to 16 candidates. The course costs £3200 plus VAT with tests being administered in two sittings after finishing the course.

The CITB accredited Health and Safety Awareness course is valid for 5 years, after which candidates are expected to register on a renewal course.
Having successfully completed this course a natural progression would be to the two day Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme Course (SSSTS).
