On the 25th January 2018 PROCAT hosted a visit for 20 Malaysian delegates who were visiting institutions within Scotland and England. The delegation were interested in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) qualifications and visited the Tunnelling Underground Construction Academy, to view the facility and understand its history and mission.

Objectives for the visit varied amongst each delegate but many were interested in networking with British institutions, seeing how these institutions were set up and operated and how some best practices could be adopted in Malaysia.

The delegation were keen to understand how and why TUCA was established, what it contributes to industry and government strategies, what courses and facilities are on offer and who the target group is for training at the centre.   They were also keen to explore the possibility of international delegates coming to the UK to train in specialist skills.

The visit included a short presentation about the facility and range of programmes available, with the opportunity for questions after and a full tour of the facilities. The delegation were able to see facilities such as the electrical engineering workshop, the rail workshop which focuses on signalling, telecommunications and track and the construction and concrete spraying laboratory.

We hope the Malaysian delegation enjoyed their visit to TUCA and found it a useful and worthwhile aspect of their trip to the United Kingdom.
